Social Media Networks: Back to Basics with LinkedIn January 19, 2010 at 4:08 PM
The most professional social networking atmosphere would definitely be awarded to LinkedIn. Although it may be the smallest of the top networking sites, its user-base is continuing to grow. LinkedIn acts as an online resume or company profile for professional networking.
The good:
- Networking never seemed so easy as it allows you to find people through existing connections
- LinkedIn profiles are straight to the point with not a lot of excess clutter
- The site is industry specific allowing you to narrow down your search
The bad:
- Its population is fairly low next to its sibling social networks
- Much activity comes from job seekers rather than employed professionals
- The site is used solely for professional use
What you can do:
- Being that LinkedIn is industry-specific, it provides a great way to find new business leads in the particular areas you concentrate in. Joining “groups” and actively participating in discussions will establish your presence in the industry.
